Question by Tin G: what are the causes of breast cancer for the women, if not from the genes?
My sister- in- law survived from breast cancer 3 yrs ago, but she got no idea where she got it. They dont even have a history of any type of cancer in teh family. Today My Mom, sufferring from cancer to the cervix, we dont ahve any cancer history in the whole family. I dont like to have cancer like them, but I am always thinking that no body is safe from cancer. Esp breast cancer.

There are a lot of unknown reasons why someone gets cancer. Only a very small percentage is genetic. My aunt, sister and I all have had breast cancer and it wasn’t the due to the BRCA1 BRCA2 genetic mutation.
There could be environmental reasons that haven’t been discovered yet, or foods, additives, plastics, etc that they just don’t know about…

A question asked by nellie42: Any breast cancer treatment options for the uninsured?
Begining Medicaid application for insurance, unemployed currently.
Recently found lump in underarm one week ago. I think insurance application will take min 3mo to process. Is my only choice to wait without treatment? I don’t know who to talk to or where to go. I’m in western NY Erie County.

The Emergency Medicaid Cancer Treament Program is fantastic. You do need to find physicians that will take this as it is retroactive. Find a physician/Hematology-Oncology/ that is more concerned about you than your money. Some will treat with the anticipation of retroactive payment…I work for such a place in Georgia……..they are wonderful….

Question posed by bluekitty: If antiperspirant/deodorant cause cancer why does it cause breast cancer?
Why doesn’t it cause “armpit cancer”? Or skin cancer? And, why would the inhibited sweat which supposedly collects in you lymph nodes if you wear antiperspirant cause breast cancer when the lymph nodes can spread the cancer to any part of your part. Since when has antiperspirate ever prevented your breast from sweating?

That is just a myth. There is no evidence that it causes cancer.

im so upset and i cant stop thinking about it or crying. im only 12 and i cant tell anyone, but i have these reddish orange blotches all over both of my breasts. i dont know if my breasts are growing or not, what are the symptoms, i have no sorness, or anything, just blotches i dont no how long this has went on for, but its been at least a year now. what are the symptoms?

really dont want to worry you as you are so young but heres a little info for you, i advise you see your doctor its best to be safe and if its nothing then at least you have peace of mind
Changes in Texture and Color
Another symptom that young women who have breast cancer may experience is the change in the texture as well as the color of the breasts. They may observe that the color of their breasts have transformed into red or may be pink in color. The change in color may occur either on the entire breast or only on certain area of the skin. Scarring may occur on the breast giving the skin an orange color. A question from CaptainGuineaPig: Gluten allergy causes breast cancer?
I have an aunt who is on a “gluten-free” diet and she swears by it. She says that she tested positive for a gluten allergy, and says that it is a type of autoimmune disease. She has never had cancer (*knock on wood*) but she told me that gluten was poisoning her, and that gluten sensitive people can develop cancer as a result of eating gluten. Before she stopped eating gluten she had weird symptoms: tired all the time, feeling sluggish, and others… but she swears that they have all gone away since she started this diet. Is it true that gluten can cause breast cancer or autoimmune disease in people with the allergy?
She says that gluten is a poison to the system in people who are allergic and that it can eventually kill an allergy sufferer unless they give it up… I am not sure who is wrong or right but I have no idea what to believe.

Gluten allergy is a real problem; I have a relative who has it. But there is no known connection between it and any sort of cancer.
