I found a boil under my breast a few days ago. It came to a head today but about 2 days ago I noticed that the skin under my breast was thick. I know that this is one of the symptoms of IBC but a nurse told my mom it was soft tissue damage but that just seems odd for boil to do something like that.

By the way breast cancer runs in my family.

Monitor the healing of the affected area and if it has not returned to it’s normal feel in 3 weeks(from when the boil finally breaks or starts to heal) make and appointment with a Dr. and share your concerns
Less than 10% of breast cancers are hereditary and only 1% of all breast cancers are inflammatory. Have you had multiple family members with inflammatory breast cancer? This would be very unusual, but if you have your local teaching hospital would be interested in following you and your family and this would give you the best possible screenings.
However, it is more likely that you do not have a hereditary breast cancer in your family and if you are young enough that your mother went with you on a doctors appointment it is doubtful you have breast cancer. The chance of getting breast cancer at 25 years old is 1 in every 20,000. From 15-19 years old it is 1 in every million then for it to be a rare cancer on top of that……you can see how unlikely this is.
