Jessika asked:
My friend has been saying all of the women in her family have had breast cancer since 1825. My friend is known to lie a lot… She also says her brother got cancer… Idk. But if he really has cancer I would feel bad… But anyway, how long has breast cancer been around; before or after and 1825?And if you can, be specific?
I know that, but what I mean is when was it classified as breast cancer?

..the dawn of humanity
Probably about as long as breast tissue and mammary glands have been around.
I’ll bet Eve died from it.
The oldest description of cancer in humans was of breast cancer. It was found in an Egyptian papyrus written between 3000-1500 BC and referred to tumours of the breast
This document from 1811 describes a woman’s mastectomy due to breast cancer
I would be inclined to take your friend’s claim about every woman in her family having had it since 1825 with a pinch of salt though
The history of breast cancer is a long and far too often tragic one. The earliest recorded cases of the disease date back to ancient Egypt. The three earliest documented cases arise from the famous Edwin Smith Papyrus, one of whom was a man. Breast cancer treatment began in the 18th century and is still being researched and developed to this day.
