This was a rumor started by the pro-lifers causing uncertainty in those wanting an abortion. it is not true. If you cut off your foot, does your arm wilt?

Abortion, Miscarriage, and Breast Cancer Risk
Introduction
A woman’s hormone levels normally change throughout her life for a variety of reasons, and these hormonal changes can lead to changes in her breasts. Many such hormonal changes occur during pregnancy, changes that may influence a woman’s chances of developing breast cancer later in life. As a result, over several decades a considerable amount of research has been and continues to be conducted to determine whether having an induced abortion, or a miscarriage (also known as spontaneous abortion), influences a woman’s chances of developing breast cancer later in life.
Current Knowledge
In February 2003, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) convened a workshop of over 100 of the world’s leading experts who study pregnancy and breast cancer risk. Workshop participants reviewed existing population-based, clinical, and animal studies on the relationship between pregnancy and breast cancer risk, including studies of induced and spontaneous abortions. They concluded that having an abortion or miscarriage does not increase a woman’s subsequent risk of developing breast cancer.
Scare tactic released by the right wing religious nut-jobs
Ya. so does eating chicken noodle soup.
I have not heard that.
If it were true and could be backed up with hard data, I am sure the pro-life people would be using that to their advantage, no?
Sounds like catholic/fundamentalist scare tactics.
IIRC, the more likely cause of breast cancer was never getting pregnant. Women who never have kids are more likely.
Wishful thinking by controlling old men would turn this into the interpretation “aha, does that include abortions?” No it doesn’t.
Yes it’s true; however, pro-choice (or pro-abortion) activists are a powerful lobby in Washington and have been active in suppressing this truth. It would be hard to find hard evidence – although it has been shown in numerous studies.
Total BS. Getting pregnant however can increase your risk of getting certain kinds or breast cancer and raise the risk or re-occurance due to the increase in estrogen (some breast cancers are sensitive to/feed off of/are triggered by estrogen itself, preganancy causes an increase in this hormone, whether you have the baby or not doesn’t make a difference). Think of it this way, a miscarriage is also an abortion…yet these people have no higher risk.
So no, this is a false rumor. (p.s. about 1 out of like 8 women will be diagnosed w/breast cancer).
I don’t, but I can tell you the reason I think that could happen. It is known that women who do not breast feed their children have more chances of developing breast cancer because it is good that the baby gets out all the milk.
So, by abortion you are cutting off dry that process of the mammal glands creating milk, do you see a relation?
that’s how i see it, just my own hypothesis.
You are misinformed. They have done studies and found that still birth, abortion and spontaneous miscarriage have no signifcant effect on whether you develop breast cancer or not.
American Cancer Society: Can Having an Abortion Cause or Contribute to Breast Cancer?
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_6x_Can_Having_an_Abortion_Cause_or_Contribute_to_Breast_Cancer.asp
“The issue of abortion generates passionate viewpoints among many people. Breast cancer is the most common cancer, and is the second leading cancer killer in women. Still, the public is not well-served by false alarms and at the present time, the scientific evidence does not support a causal association between induced abortion and breast cancer.”
No, but it can break your heart later in life. Every time you see a child about the age you baby WOULD be. It is not without cost
look, i’m pro-life, but even i know and am very willing to say this is not true. unfortunately, people use scare tactics to push their causes along.
that’s a lie created by the pro-life movement.
Although I am absolutely against abortion and would like to present a physical reason for not having one to the masses, I have never heard of this, and think it must be a scare tactic from some misdirected person.
