Inflammatory breast cancer anyone ?
A question from Regina (SOC): Inflammatory breast cancer anyone ?
Do any of you know anything about ‘inflammatory breast cancer’ ? It is a deadly type of breast cancer, very aggressive and fast moving. It does not present itself as a lump, but rather as a sore on the outside of the breast. It moves rapidly to major organs. Are you aware of it, ladies? Have any of you had it ? We just lost a loved one at the age of 45 who suffered a long time with it. What is your experience and/or knowledge?

I actually run into this in my job as a sonographer. Its commonly misdiagnosed as mastitis or infection in the beginning.
Cancer is a sad state no matter where you are in it, even if you survive, and unfortunately it takes many many tooo young and too painfully.
Sorry about your friend
I don’t know a lot about the condition, but I have a patient on treatment for it right now. We’re doing chemotherapy BEFORE she has surgery (called neoadjuvant treatment) so that we can shrink the swelling and tumor size prior to them removing her breast. This gives the surgeons a better shot at removing all of the tumor. She will continue with radiation and chemotherapy after her surgery in an attempt to rid her body of any further microscopic areas of cancer.
