Probably because breast cancer has a much higher rate of death, and strikes women of all ages. Prostate cancer strikes later in life, grows slowly, and seldom kills it’s victims.
Society tends to care more about women it seems. The pink ribbons and doing it for our “daughters and mothers and wives” and such are meant to open our hearts and our wallets. Not that breast cancer research is a bad thing.
On the flipside, when you mention prostate guys get squeamish and makes me think of an organ located up one’s rectum. Not really fund-raising material. Prostate problems also remind me of old men, even though the cancer itself can affect much younger guys.
People tend to have “their cause” and for many, breast cancer research happens to be it. I saw a fundraising event in a store decorated with blue ribbons. I was disappointed to learn it was collecting for prostate cancer and not promoting a boy’s right to remain intact.
more victims? maybe more people have been through it than prostate, im sure if you look theres alot of fund raising for prostate cancer. if not, then make one :]
hope i helped you, good luck!
